LMP vs LJP
When looking for a plumbing contractor, look for the LMP symbol. If the company you a looking to hire does not have a LMP symbol, has no symbol or the LJP symbol, are they really qualified? No! LJP stands for Licensed Journeyman Plumber. The state legislature started allowing journeyman plumbers to operate plumbing repair companies due to representatives of small, rural areas not having master plumbers. It also opened a window for people that cannot pass the Master Plumbers exam to open a plumbing repair business. However, the plumbing repair business with a LJP license is limited to the work they are legally allowed to perform. They are not allowed to cut into the water system or drainage system. They are not allowed to pull permits, perform legal gas tests, etc. and generally do not carry workers compensation insurance. If you look to hire a company operated by an LJP, make them show proof of their insurance.
